Docent training is a great opportunity to learn more about Edgewood. Leading hikes is amazingly rewarding because of the interest and gratitude of our public. Training covers an Introduction to and History of Edgewood, Plants of the Oak Woodland, Local Geology, Plants of the Chaparral, How to recognize Flowers, Serpentine Grassland Wildflowers, and How to Lead a Wildflower Walk. Training consists of 7 Wednesday evening sessions, each followed by a Saturday morning session. Schedule for 2008 Wednesday evening sessions run from 7 to 9:15 pm on Jan. 23, Feb. 6, Feb. 20, Mar. 5, Mar. 19, Apr. 2, and Apr. 16. The Saturday morning sessions go from 9 am to 1 pm on the Saturdays following the Wednesday presentations. The Saturday morning hikes are led by the Wednesday presenter and cover his/her topic except for the Saturday after the Flower Key talk. On that day, participants will take a one-on-one walk with an experienced docent. To reserve your spot, email docent-trainer@friendsofedgewood.org. |
