Management Responsibility
County Staff
Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve is one of the parks under the management of
the Parks Department of San Mateo County.
In early 2003, the Parks Division implemented an Area
management concept, in which Parks staff is assigned to 1 of 2 areas. The areas
consist roughly of south County parks and north County parks. South County parks
include Edgewood, Huddart, Wunderlich, and south County trails. South County
staff also have responsibility for Woodside Store and Bicycle Sunday.
The pertinent part of the County's management structure looks like this:
- David Holland, Director, Parks
Department
- Dave Moore, Superintendent
- Priscilla Alvarez, Ranger IV (in charge of south
County area)
- John Trewin, Ranger III responsible for Edgewood
Parks and Recreation Commission

In addition to County staff, the County Supervisors have formed a Parks and Recreation
Commission, which works in concert with the Parks Department. Each

Management Plan
The Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve Master Plan, adopted in May,1997 by the San
Mateo County Board of Supervisors, is the official document guiding the future use,
preservation, and management of Edgewood. It provides a management framework for
preserving significant environmental resources while providing for appropriate
recreational and aesthetic opportunities. The goals and objectives of the Master
Plan are to:
- Protect, preserve, and restore Edgewood's natural resources. This is the primary
objective.
- Promote environmental awareness and educational opportunities to ensure responsible
stewardship of Edgewood's rare, endangered, and fragile natural resources.
- Ensure public enjoyment of Edgewood through low-intensity recreational uses that
minimize the need for new construction.
- Maintain and manage site improvements at Edgewood, thereby guaranteeing the continuance
and maintenance of authorized trails.
- Provide access to Edgewood that meets visitor and public service provider needs.
Public service providers include emergency response, utility, and park maintenance
personnel.
