FRIENDS OF EDGEWOOD NATURAL PRESERVE
|

|
As the spring season transforms Edgewood into a bounty of flowers and visitors, I have two important accomplishments to report. First, the end is in sight for approval of the new Master Plan. The Parks and Recreation Commissioners held their final public hearing on Thursday, March 6. The decisions reached at the hearing were extremely encouraging. The Master Plan draft now reflects the priorities of Edgewood's natural preserve status that we have been fighting for since this process began over 2 years ago. Parks and Recreation staff will make one more editorial pass over the document, and then on April 3 the Commissioners will review it, presumably for the final time before sending it on to the San Mateo County Supervisors. If all goes well, the Plan could be approved by mid-year. Second, we now have full-color brochures highlighting 20 of the most common native wildflowers at Edgewood. The Friends designed the brochure, and CNPS will sell them to visitors at the docent-led walks and at other venues as well for $2. I'm excited about the brochure because it will help visitors remember visually some of the flowers that they observe. We're also giving these brochures to all new and renewing members for the next year as membership gifts. (For further details, see page 7.) |
