Re: Funding Support for San Mateo County Parks

Dear President Church,

I am writing to you to express my hope that the Board will support additional funding or Ranger positions so all the San Mateo County park units can remain open 7 days per week. I fully support increases to the P&R budget so they can fulfill their stated mission: Through stewardship, the San Mateo County Park and Recreation Division preserves our County's natural and cultural treasures, and provides safe, accessible parks, recreation and learning opportunities to enhance the community's quality of life.

For many people, parks serve as their primary venue for exercise, stress reduction and quiet contemplation. Many choose to live in the area because parks are nearby. Seniors can go for their daily walk without having to negotiate traffic; mothers can take their youngsters for a chance to learn about nature; and school children can complete their State of California course curriculum. It is unconscionable that we cut off 4 parks 43% of the time.

[Add your own words describing what San Mateo County parks mean to you and why they should be open every day.]

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.

Sincerely,
